"Disappointed in the Lemonade Flavor — A Missed Opportunity for Built Protein Bars I purchased the Built Protein Bars because I absolutely love anything lemonade-flavored. When I saw a sour pink lemonade squeeze option, I was excited to try it. I went in with high expectations because lemonade has such a distinctive, refreshing flavor profile. Unfortunately, these bars did not deliver the sour lemonade experience I was expecting, and I feel the flavor needs significant improvement. My biggest issue is that these bars are missing the very thing that makes lemonade taste like lemonade: a genuine, refreshing tartness. Lemonade is not simply a sweet food with a hint of lemon. Real lemonade has a recognizable balance of sweetness and acidity. That bright, tangy, slightly sour sensation is what gives lemonade its refreshing character and separates it from other sweet, lemon-flavored desserts. Without that balance, the flavor can fall flat, taste overly sweet, or lose its identity altogether. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened here. The only noticeable tart or sour element I experienced was the sugar sprinkled on top of the bar. The actual flavor of the bar itself did not deliver the bold, tangy lemonade taste I was anticipating. Instead of having that unmistakable lemony zing that makes your mouth water, the flavor felt incomplete. The contrast between sweet and tart simply was not there in the way I expected it to be. A lemonade-flavored product should not rely on a sugary topping to provide the sour sensation that defines the flavor. The lemonade taste should be present throughout the bar, not limited to an isolated element on the surface. Every bite should deliver that bright citrus character, with enough tartness to balance the sweetness and make the flavor feel authentic. This is especially important with protein bars because sweetness alone does not necessarily create a satisfying or convincing flavor. A well-developed flavor profile needs balance. Sweetness, acidity, aroma, and the overall taste experience all contribute to whether a product actually resembles the flavor advertised on its packaging. With a lemonade variety, that balance is essential. I understand that a protein bar is not a glass of freshly squeezed lemonade. I am not expecting it to taste identical to a beverage. However, I do expect the flavor to capture the defining characteristics of lemonade. There is a difference between creating a lemon-flavored sweet treat and creating something that genuinely tastes like lemonade. For me, this product fell short of that distinction. There is also a missed opportunity here. Lemonade is a flavor that naturally lends itself to a refreshing, bright, citrus-forward experience. It can be sweet without being overwhelmingly sweet, and tart without being unpleasantly sour. That balance could make a lemonade protein bar stand out from the many chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, and other dessert-inspired protein bars available. Instead, the defining characteristic I was looking for was largely absent. I wanted that immediate lemony tang, the little sour kick that makes you think of a cold glass of lemonade on a hot day. I wanted the citrus flavor to come through clearly rather than having the sweetness dominate the experience. My recommendation to Built is simple: increase the genuine lemon flavor and develop a more noticeable tartness throughout the bar. A better balance between sweetness and acidity could make a substantial difference. The goal should not be to make the bar unbearably sour, but to create a flavor that is unmistakably lemonade from the first bite to the last. I am sharing this feedback because I believe honest product reviews should explain more than whether someone liked or disliked something. They should identify what worked, what did not, and what could make the product better. In this case, the problem is not that I dislike lemonade. Quite the opposite: I love lemonade, which is precisely why I noticed the absence of the flavor characteristics I associate with it. I purchased these bars genuinely excited to try them, and the flavor did not meet my expectations. The concept has potential, but the execution needs work. If a product is marketed as lemonade-flavored, consumers should be able to expect a recognizable lemonade experience, including that signature tart, tangy citrus taste. Final verdict: The lemonade flavor needs a serious upgrade. The sweetness is not enough to carry the flavor, and the slight sourness from the sugar topping does not make up for the lack of tartness in the bar itself. I would love to see Built create a bolder, brighter, more authentic lemonade flavor that balances sweet and sour instead of leaning so heavily on sweetness. Built, please give us the lemonade flavor that lemonade lovers are actually looking for. More lemon. More tang. More tartness. Less reliance on a sugary topping to do all the work. There is a real opportunity to make this flavor something special, but for me, this version missed the mark."

"Delicious!!! This is our favourite flavour. We cannot get enough. A nice gooey marshmallow texture. Just the right blend of sweetness and tasty watermelon flavour. When I’m craving dessert or something sweet this is what I reach for, and it’s a super healthy snack!!!"

Fantastic product for those who like sweet and sour

"I am a massive Built fan, but I honestly didn't think sour flavors were going to work initially. I regret being skeptical, because these are fantastic! The initial tart bite is fantastic, and continues throughout the experience, honestly. I have been trying various sours now, and this one stands out for sure due to its lip puckering lemonade combo. Big fan! I will definitely be buying these again. Also, I really enjoy the sour crystals on top."

Melted

"Love the flavors but by the time they arrived they were melted and didn’t harden back to normal. All of the coating stuck to the wrapper and it’s too messy to eat. I will go back to buying at Costco. They used to ship with an ice pack to help this but this time did not"

"Several of the bars were open and the packaging was misprinted. I’m sure the product was fine, but there were several that we couldn’t use because they weren’t sealed."
